Phil Campbell: The MC5 knew how to rock.

Mike Watt: the tune 'ramblin rose' has a part for me that might not be that known: d boon's ma played it on guitar - she had d boon learn guitar as a boy and he learned that tune so he could play it for her - in a trippy way, that's how I got into playing music! I'm so glad to be part of this tune, truly!

Danko Jones: Everything from their name to their look, and to their sound, the MC5 embodied Rock N’ Roll . Kicking against the pricks as much as kicking out the jams was what they were all about. They are the bridge to so many bands today and they must be treasured. Also, it’s always super cool when a band says the word “motherfucker” on their records.

Chris Connelly: The MC5 was a band, along with the Stooges, that remained myth for a long time for me, during the early days of punk, back in 76/77 when I would read about bands that influenced the Damned or whoever else I was obsessed with that week. No one had the records, you were just allowed to let your imagination run rampant and devour the weekly British music press for mentions of these legends. Eventually, somewhere, somehow, you would be given a cassette, you would hear them at a strangers house, or maybe on the John Peel show, and everything would change.....and it changed, and it changed, and it still changes....

Billy Gould: To me, MC5 wrote so many of the rules of rock and roll, before there was a book to write them in. All gut instinct, no compromise, no regrets...they walked into the sun fearlessly, and they paid the price. Only respect.

Lydia Lunch: MC5 - fierce, rebellious, balls out and badass. Mandatory listening.

Richie Stotts: In 1969, my mother unknowingly stole a copy of MC5’s ‘Kick Out The Jams’ at Caldor’s Department Store. I had secretly stuffed it into her shopping bag. In 1970, my dad forbade me from attending a live MC5 concert in Danbury, CT. Many years later, I met and jammed with Wayne Kramer and had him sign my stolen LP. I have been a loyal fan of the MC5 for 55 years. Being a part of this tribute project is definitely the icing on the cake.

Jeff Smith: As a kid I spent a lot of time looking through the cut-out bin at the record store…alongside the Flamin’ Groovies ‘Teenage Head’ my greatest find was the MC5’s ‘Back in the U.S.A.’ - it was then I first heard rock’n’roll’s past meeting it’s future.

Kim Thayil: When I think of the bands/music/artists that I love, I think of those that have inspired and influenced me musically. But, I also think of those that have given me some perspective on myself and have helped me navigate my way through society and life with insight, strength, wit and courage. These are the bands and songwriters that have become a component of my identity and character as a musician and as a person. There may be a couple dozen groups/artists that’ve had this kind of impact on my growth and development, but at the absolute top of that list is the MC5.

Joey Killingsworth: The MC5 are one of the most bad ass bands that ever rocked and set the template for all that came after them.
